Barry Sanders of Detroit lions breaks down of heart failure
Detroit Lions legend Barry Sanders has announced he experienced a heart-related health .
The 55-year-old Hall of Fame running back called the incident ‘unexpected’ and revealed the news in a statement posted to social media.
REMEMBER ‘Over Father’s Day weekend, he experienced a health scare related to my heart,’ Sanders began. ‘It was unexpected and served as a reminder of the important of staying vigilant about our physical well-being, even when we are feeling fine.
‘I am grateful for the amazing doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals for providing me with needed care. My family and I are thankful for your prayers and support during tis time,’ he continued.
‘Per my doctors’ recommendation, I am taking this opportunity to prioritize my health and well-being. I appreciate your understanding and continued support.’
The Lions shared Sanders’ statement to their own X account and posted a graphic that read ‘get well soon Barry.’
Sanders, considered to be one of the greatest running backs of all-time, spent all 10 seasons of his career with the Lions from 1989-98.
He was a six-time All-Pro and the 1997 MVP as he topped 1,300 yards in all but one of his seasons.
His 15,269 rushing yards are the fourth-most all-time, behind only Emmitt Smith, Walter Payton and Frank Gore.
