North Carolina Tar Heels men’s basketball Head Coach Hubert Davis has welcomed his first male child into the world, adding a new chapter to an already storied life and career. The announcement was made early Sunday morning, with the Davis family confirming that both mother and baby are healthy and resting well.
The child, born at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, marks a significant and emotional moment for Coach Davis, who has often spoken publicly about the importance of family, faith, and legacy. “This is a blessing beyond words,” Coach Davis said in a brief statement released by UNC Athletics. “My wife and I are overwhelmed with joy. We are so grateful to God for this beautiful gift and appreciate all the love and support from the Carolina family.”
This is the fourth child for Davis and his wife Leslie, but the first son. Known for being a devoted father and family man, Davis has always placed tremendous value on being present and supportive in his children’s lives. Davis, a former UNC standout and 12-year NBA veteran, took the helm of the Tar Heels program in 2021, becoming the first African American head coach in UNC men’s basketball history. Since then, he’s been lauded not only for his coaching acumen but also for his moral leadership and emotional intelligence.
