Today, a somber cloud hangs over the city of Belleview as hundreds of residents, officers, and family members gathered to say their final goodbyes to Officer Jonathan Reyes, a dedicated and well-respected member of the Belleview Police Department who tragically lost his life in an automobile accident last week.
The 34-year-old officer was laid to rest this morning at Oak Lawn Memorial Park following a moving funeral service held at Belleview Community Church. It was a day filled with tears, memories, tributes, and the echoing silence of grief as the city mourned the sudden loss of one of its finest.
A Dedicated Public Servant
Officer Reyes had served with the Belleview Police Department for over nine years. Known for his unwavering sense of duty, infectious smile, and deep connection with the community, he was more than just a uniform — he was a friend, a protector, and a role model.
“He was the type of officer who showed up for people — not just on the worst day of their lives, but every day,” said Belleview Police Chief Karen Rollins during the emotional eulogy. “He embodied the spirit of service, and his absence leaves a void that will never be filled.”
Reyes was responding to a call on the evening of July 18 when his patrol vehicle was involved in a collision with a commercial truck at the intersection of County Road 484 and SE 132nd Street. Despite all efforts by emergency responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
