In a surprising twist that’s rocking the NBA world, Memphis Grizzlies General Manager Zach Kleiman has formally requested the league to conduct a doping test on star point guard Ja Morant. The request comes amid what Kleiman reportedly described as “unprecedented physical transformation and energy levels” displayed by Morant in recent weeks.
According to insiders within the Grizzlies’ front office, Kleiman’s concerns aren’t rooted in distrust of Morant himself but stem from suspicions regarding the intense and unconventional methods implemented by newly appointed Head Coach Tuomas Iisalo. Known for his rigorous European-style regimens and no-excuse culture, Iisalo has pushed the team through extreme pre-season conditioning routines, aiming to reshape Memphis into a championship contender.

The NBA has yet to respond publicly to the request, but league sources confirmed that such requests, while rare, are not unprecedented. If granted, the drug test would be conducted under the league’s anti-drug policy, which covers performance-enhancing drugs, stimulants, and prohibited supplements.
Morant, who has been open about his personal growth and focus following prior league suspensions, appeared unbothered by the news. Posting a cryptic message on social media shortly after reports surfaced, he wrote: “Test me. I’m built different.”
Coach Iisalo has not yet addressed the controversy, but sources close to the team describe him as “laser-focused” and unwilling to allow distractions to derail his plans for the season.
