Indiana University has officially announced the hiring of Rod Clark as an assistant coach for the men’s basketball program, marking a significant addition to Head Coach Darian DeVries’ inaugural staff. Clark, renowned for his recruiting prowess and player development skills, joins the Hoosiers after a successful four-year tenure at the University of Tennessee. During his time with the Volunteers, Clark played a pivotal role in the team’s consistent success, contributing to a 79–28 record, two Sweet Sixteen appearances, and an Elite Eight run. His recruiting acumen was instrumental in bringing in top talent, including Dalton Knecht, who earned SEC Player of the Year honors and was selected 17th overall in the NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Lakers. Clark also played a key role in the development of players like Kennedy Chandler and Julian Phillips, both of whom progressed to the NBA under his guidance.
Clark’s coaching journey began at Sunrise Christian Academy, a national prep basketball powerhouse, where he served as the top assistant coach. He then transitioned to collegiate coaching with stints at Illinois-Chicago and Austin Peay State University, where he continued to build his reputation for developing talent and strong recruiting.
At Indiana, Clark is expected to leverage his extensive experience to enhance the Hoosiers’ recruiting efforts and player development programs. His addition to the coaching staff aligns with Coach DeVries’ vision of assembling a dynamic and effective team to elevate Indiana’s basketball program. Clark’s appointment comes amid a broader restructuring of the coaching staff under Coach DeVries, who was named Indiana’s head coach on March 18, 2025. The new staff includes assistant coaches Drew Adams, Nick Norton, and Kenny Johnson, each bringing unique strengths to the program. With Clark’s proven track record in recruiting and player development, Indiana aims to reestablish itself as a formidable force in college basketball. His ability to identify and nurture talent is anticipated to contribute significantly to the Hoosiers’ success in the upcoming seasons.
