THE MINNESOTA VIKINGS HAVE ANNOUNCED THAT A BRONZE SCULPTURE OF HALL OF FAME BROADCASTER ALAN ROACH WILL BE UNVEILED OUTSIDE OF U.S. BANK STADIUM ON SEPT. 6, 2025

In a tribute that blends legacy, voice, and passion, the Minnesota Vikings have officially announced plans to unveil a bronze sculpture of legendary Hall of Fame broadcaster Alan Roach outside U.S. Bank Stadium on September 6, 2025. The sculpture will commemorate Roach’s iconic role in sports broadcasting, specifically his contributions to the Minnesota Vikings and the larger NFL community.
The sculpture will depict Roach in his most natural element—behind the microphone, headphones on, eyes focused, and mid-call. Designed to capture the emotion and intensity that Roach delivered with every syllable, the monument is intended not only as an artistic piece but as a living memory of a man whose voice defined a generation of NFL moments.
A VOICE FOR THE AGES
For decades, Alan Roach has been a commanding presence in stadiums across America. His thunderous yet precise voice has resonated through some of the most electric moments in sports history—from Super Bowls to Olympic Games, from NHL arenas to international soccer matches. Yet, it was his unmistakable cadence during Minnesota Vikings games that earned him a special place in the hearts of Vikings fans.
“Alan isn’t just a voice. He’s the voice,” said Vikings owner and president Mark Wilf. “When people think of iconic moments in our stadium, Alan Roach is the soundtrack. This sculpture is our way of preserving that legacy for generations to come.”
Roach, who was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Media Wing in 2022, has long been a beloved figure in Minneapolis. His distinct baritone introductions—”Now taking the field, your Minnesota Vikings!”—have become as much a part of the gameday ritual as the roar of the crowd or the sight of the team bursting through the tunnel.
THE SCULPTURE DESIGN

Commissioned by the Vikings in collaboration with local artists and sculptors, the statue will be life-sized and positioned just outside the Legacy Gate on the stadium’s western side. The depiction of Roach will include finely detailed elements such as a classic broadcasting mic in his right hand, notes in his left, and his headset resting perfectly over his ears. The expression captured will be one of intense concentration, as if he’s seconds away from delivering another unforgettable game intro.
Surrounding the base of the sculpture will be an engraved ring of some of Roach’s most famous calls and catchphrases, allowing visitors to read and reflect on the voice that brought games to life. An interactive audio installation is also planned, which will allow fans to press buttons and hear iconic Roach calls from throughout his career.
“It was crucial for us that fans not only see Alan but also hear him,” said stadium operations director Lisa Connelly. “He’s more than a figure in Vikings history—he’s an experience, and that’s what we want to capture.”
ALAN ROACH REACTS
Reached for comment, Roach expressed a mixture of humility and deep gratitude.
“I’m absolutely blown away,” Roach said. “To have a sculpture made in my honor is something I never dreamed of. I’ve always considered it a privilege just to be part of the game-day atmosphere. For the Vikings organization to recognize me in this way is deeply moving.”
He continued, “Every game I announced, I did it with passion and respect for the players, the fans, and the tradition of the sport. To be memorialized in bronze—well, let’s just say, I’ll be speechless for once.”
FANS AND LEGACY
Vikings fans across Minnesota and beyond are already buzzing with excitement about the upcoming unveiling. Social media platforms lit up following the announcement, with fans reminiscing about their favorite Roach calls and expressing pride in the team’s decision to honor him.
“Alan Roach is just as much a part of Vikings history as any player,” tweeted longtime fan Jenna L., who has attended home games for over 20 years. “Every time I hear his voice, I get goosebumps. This statue is going to be a must-see.”
Season ticket holder Marcus Green shared a similar sentiment: “I bring my kids to games now, and I tell them, ‘That voice you hear? That’s the sound of Vikings football.’ I can’t wait to show them the sculpture.”
UNVEILING CEREMONY DETAILS

The unveiling ceremony is scheduled for the morning of Saturday, September 6, 2025, the day before the Vikings’ regular-season opener. The event will be open to the public and will include appearances from team legends, current players, broadcasters, and members of Roach’s family. A highlight reel of Roach’s most famous calls will be played on the stadium’s jumbotron, followed by a live dedication.
In addition, the team has announced limited-edition memorabilia—including miniature replicas of the statue and audio-embedded plaques—will be available for purchase, with proceeds supporting youth broadcasting scholarships in Minnesota.
MORE THAN A STATUE
As the NFL continues to honor not just athletes but the voices and individuals who shape the culture of the sport, Alan Roach’s bronze sculpture will stand as a symbol of excellence in broadcasting. For Vikings fans, it’s a permanent tribute to a man whose voice is woven into the very fabric of their memories.
From the thunderous echo of “Touchdown, Vikings!” to the anticipatory pause before a dramatic play, Alan Roach has given fans more than just information—he’s given them emotion, electricity, and a connection to the game that’s as enduring as any championship banner.
Come September, that voice will be immortalized—etched in bronze, anchored in legacy, and forever echoing across the skyline of Minneapolis.
